HCPS School library program mission:

To empower students and staff to become critical thinkers, enthusiastic readers, skillful researchers, and ethical users of information.

The ACE Center at Highland Springs library is a resource for our students who come from all HCPS high schools. Because students have their own excellent “home school” library programs, the ACE Center library does not attempt to replicate those library services. Books pertain to the technical programs we offer. The library also has reference books, including Atlases, dictionaries, books of quotations, biographies, career guidance information, resume and business-letter writing. Magazines support the programs, and are housed in classrooms. Magazines of general interest like Newsweek, Consumer Reports and Virginia Wildlife are kept in the library.
The ACE Center at Highland Springs library has a computer lab with 10 Dell laptop computers. Students without laptops may use these for testing or for assignments.

The library is available for meetings, staff development and one-on-one work with students.
The librarian is available 2-3 days a week (students can check the schedule) from 8:00-4:00. The library associate splits her time between the ACE Centers – Hermitage and Highland Springs. Services include help with: laminating, research, writing term papers, college essays, printing, preparation for leadership competition and employment preparation. Career preparation includes resume writing and mock interviews with tech center classes. The library associate works with students to prepare them for student competition, as well. The library associate works with the ACE Center school counselor to promote ACE center classes, and produces the school’s newsletter. Students may see Ms. Harris, HSTC school counselor in her office, within the library. The library is also used for testing and remediation.
