Cosmetology I & II

cosmetology

Program Synopsis: The Cosmetology Program at the ACE Center at Highland Springs offers students the ability to learn manicures, pedicures, paraffin treatments, scalp massage, hand and foot massage, facials, facial makeup, shampooing, haircuts, hair styling, waxing, braiding, permanent waving, relaxing techniques, wig care, haircoloring, highlighting, artificial nails and artificial lashes.

Cosmetology I: The first year of Cosmetology serves as a foundation for the entire cosmetology curriculum, familiarizing the student with basic procedures which will, with practice, lead to the skills of the occupation. Emphasis is placed on professional ethics, image development, and the skills required of a licensed cosmetologist.

Cosmetology II:  In this course, students expand on knowledge and skills which are required for licensure. Emphasis is placed on advanced technique, with increased speed and perfection. Lab work is performed on manikins, students, and patrons from the school and community in the school and in the salon. This allows students to gain the skills needed to ensure a smooth transition from school to employment in this industry. Students are encouraged to work in a salon as a stylist through the work experience program second semester.

Instructors: Both instructors are graduates of the cosmetology programs in Henrico County.  Mrs. Childress earned her Cosmetology License through the ACE Center at Highland Springs and Ms. Williams attended the Cosmetology program at Hermitage Tech Center. They have been licensed Cosmetologists for well over 20 years. Together they have a combined total of over 25 years teaching experience and have been team teaching since 2006.
