Highland Springs Technical Center Library

Librarian: Jan Budryk

HCPS School library program mission:
To empower students and staff to become critical thinkers, enthusiastic readers, skillful researchers, and ethical users of information.

The Highland Springs Technical Center library is a resource for our students who come from all HCPS high schools. Because students have their own excellent “home school” library programs, the HSTC library does not attempt to replicate those library services. Books pertain to the technical programs we offer. The library also has reference books, including Atlases, dictionaries, books of quotations, biographies, career guidance information, resume and business letter writing. Magazines support the programs, and are housed in classrooms. Magazines of general interest like Newsweek, Consumer Reports and Virginia Wildlife are kept in the library.
The HSTC library has a computer lab with 10 Dell desktop computers. Students without laptops may use these for testing or for assignments.

The library is available for meetings, staff development and one-on-one work with students.
The librarian is available 2-3 days a week (students can check the schedule) from 8:00-4:30. The librarian splits her time between Hermitage Tech and Highland Springs Tech. She is available for help with laminating, research, writing term papers, college essays, and employment preparation. Career preparation includes resume writing and mock interviews with tech center classes. The librarian works with students to prepare them for student competition, as well. The librarian works with the HSTC school counselor to promote technical center classes, and produces the school’s newsletter. Students may see Ms. Harris, HSTC school counselor in her office, within the library.
